December 8, 2015: Our Chapter is co-hosting an Investigation Seminar at the Federal Reserve Bank Facility. The Investigator Seminar accounts for 8 hours of CEU's for ASIS, MCJEA, and various other LE certifications. Both the public and private sector are welcome to attend. Fees for ASIS/MCJEA members are $25 and Non-members are $45 (which includes training materials/coffee/breakfast/lunch). September 10, 2015: Our LEAD luncheon was another success! Attendence was great, many local law enforcement agencies and local corporations sent representatives, and the awards and associated descriptions of successful investigations and acts of valor were inspiring. September 8, 2015: In lieu of our September meeting, our chapter will be hosting the Law Enforcement Appreciation Day lunch at The Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #1 located at 2988 Winewood Road, Birmingham, Alabama, 35215 (turn right off Pinson Valley Parkway, Hwy #79, just north of Tarrant City) from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. This is a day to honor those who have shown exemplary service in the field of law enforcement and the day will include a delicious meal from Full Moon BBQ a prestigious guest speaker and an awards ceremony. July 25, 2015: Our local chapter is hosting a seminar training series called "Seeking the Truth: Maximizing Statements & Interviews" at the Alabama Power Building at 1313 6th Ave N, Birmingham, AL from 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Registration begins at 8:00 a.m. Cost of the event is $25 for ASIS members and $30 for non members. Walk‐ins welcome, subject to available space. Certificates will be issued for 6 hour APOSTC credit for law enforcement officers. CPE credit is also available for Certified Fraud Examiners.
July 14, 2015: Our July meeting will be held on the 14th in the Alabama Power Atrium, Electra room, as usual. June 9, 2015: Our June meeting will be held in our usual venue and our guest speaker will be Patrick Lamb who will share issues concerning Identity Theft. Patrick Lamb is a graduate of the University of Montevallo and Cumberland School of Law. He served as an Assistant District Attorney in Morgan County, Alabama from 1993 through 1998 and again from 2000 through 2002. He was in private practice from 1998 through 2000 with a specialty in Real Estate and Creditor’s Rights. He served as Secretary of the Morgan County Bar, President of the Morgan County Young Lawyers, President of the Morgan County Junior Chamber of Commerce, and served on the Board of Directors of the Morgan County Chamber of Commerce. Patrick served as a Special Assistant Attorney General prosecuting cases in Lawrence County and Lauderdale County. He has contributed articles to the Alabama Prosecutor was also the organizer and director of the 2007 Birmingham Metropolitan Identity Theft Summit. He has taught as an adjunct professor at Calhoun Community College, at the Birmingham Police Academy, the Hoover Police Department, the FBI National Academy, and the Alabama District Attorney’s Association. Since January 2003, he has served as a Deputy District Attorney in the Birmingham Division of Jefferson County, Alabama. He currently is assigned to serve as a Supervising Attorney in the new White Collar and Public Corruption Unit. He is one of the few prosecutors in the state to prosecute an open meeting lawsuit, a quo warranto lawsuit to remove a public official, and be sued for several million dollars by sovereign citizens of the republic of Alabama. His greatest accomplishment is marrying Jane Aycock Lamb and sharing three loud unruly boys with her.
May 12, 2015: Our May meeting will be held in our usual venue and our guest speaker will be Debra Davis, CPP and she will cover the topic entitled" Securing the Disaster Zone". Debra is the Area Investigator for Alabama Power company where she has Corporate Security Responsibility for the Eastern Division territory of Alabama Power Company. Previously, she served as Corporate Security Training Coordinator for Alabama Power where she developed and delivered training curriculum for armed Security Force. Her certifications include Certified Law Enforcement Firearms Instructor (Pistol & Shotgun), Certified Chemical Weapons Instructor, Certified Instructor PPCT, Certified Instructor State & Local Anti-Terrorism, Certified Instructor Verbal Judo, and Certified Instructor Weapons of Mass Destruction. Debra is also a retired Lieutenant with the Anniston Police Department and is worked in Patrol, Accident Investigation Unit, Investigative Division, Detective Sergeant, Patrol Sergeant, Special Operations Sergeant, Patrol Lieutenant, Training and Inspections and served as Crisis Negotiator. There is no cost to attend our meetings, and no RSVP is required.
April 14, 2015: Our April Meeting will be in our regular room and regular time. Our guest speaker will be Bill Mayfield, RN and the topic will be Health Incident Management: The Security Branch Function. Bill has been a Registered Nurse for over 30 years, and concurrently has 20 years of fire service, Hazmat, and emergency management experience. He currently serves as the Emergency Preparedness Coordinator for UAB Medicine, based in Birmingham, Alabama. As always, meetings are no cost, and no RSVP is required.
March 10, 2015: Our March meeting will be held in our usual venue and our guest speaker is our own YP liaison, Ryan Schwoebel, CFE. He will be speaking on Procurement Fraud. Ryan Schwoebel is an assistant vice president with Regions Bank's Anti-money Laundering Compliance department. Prior to this he worked in investigations in the private sector and law enforcement since 2004, including 4 years as a special agent with NCIS in Norfolk, VA. He teaches as adjunct faculty for UAB and Troy University in the areas of criminal justice and security, and is a member of the ASIS Economic Crimes Council. There is no cost to attend our meetings, and no RSVP is required.
February 5, 2015: Our February meeting will be held on the 10th in the Alabama Power Atrium, Electra room, as usual. Our speaker will be Supervisory Special Agent Chris Hoffman of the Birmingham AL FBI Field Office. SSA Hoffman commands the Counter Terrorism Squad and the North Alabama Joint Terrorism Task Force. As always, meetings are no cost, and no RSVP is required.
January 5, 2015: Our first meeting of the year will be in our regular location on the regular day and time! Tuesday, January 13, 2015 we will meet at the Alabama Power location at 11:30. Our speaker will be Ms. Alexa James, Development Director of The Wellhouse, a nonprofit, faith-based and Christ centered organization devoted to the rescue and recover of women who have been sexually exploited. May 13, 2014: Our first meeting of the Summer Guest Speaker Series was a success with Birmingham's Police Chief A.C.Roper addressing our group. His time was cut short by some pressing issues, but the discussion was informative and well received.
April 30, 2014: Our next meeting will be May 13, 2014. It will be the first in our summer speaker series, this month we will feature our own Birmingham Police Department Chief A.C. Roper! April 2, 2014: Chapter Scholarship Notice: As we have discussed at our recent chapter meetings, our chaper will select one chapter member, in good standing, who applies for the following: 1 scholarship to the certification course (ASIS prep course for CPP, PSP, PCP), OR a subscription (1 year) to the POA manual. If interested in consideration, please forward a written request, including what award you seek, and why you are deserving, to the Chapter Secretary, John Hassard, MS, CPP, CFE, LPC at firstname.lastname@example.org. If you are interested in serving on the award selection committee this spring(no certification is required, but you can't apply for an award THIS year!), email John Hassard as well. Deadline for submissions is April 22, 2014, which is 2 weeks after our next meeting, so get those emails in.

January 23, 2014: Due to the changes in how the POA (Protection of Assets) Manual is managed online we no longer offer complimentary access to chapter members as a benefit of membership (it is now assigned to a specific user ID). In lieu of that, we have both lowered the chapter dues to $25.00 per year (and they are now due!), and we are rolling out a scholarship to any active chapter member to allow them to use it for certification-related items such as the POA manual (online access) or a study course for one of the ASIS certifications. We will explain the details in the February chapter meeting and begin accepting applications for this. If you are unable to attend the February meeting and are interested in this, contact any chapter officer after that meeting.

August 15, 2012: Our first Vendor Technology Show was held yesterday. 9 vendors and over 30 interested security professionals attended. Food was plentiful, many networking opportunites were realized, and some new products and services were introduced. Several door prizes, courtesy of the chapter, including ASIS Insulated Travel Mugs, a Visa Gift Card, and a Nook E-Reader were awarded to participants. For our first attempt at this type of meeting it seemed to be a success, and we hope to expand upon this format in the future. Please keep in mind we will repeat this next summer, so if you are a vendor wishing to participate, or know of a vendor we should invite, please contact any chapter officer.
